As many communities in the province of North Cotabato are still plagued by dengue despite the intensified provincial government-led anti-dengue campaign, the province will be placed under state of calamity.
Dengue cases have already reached the “epidemic” threshold in the province with 16 recorded deaths and cases up by 221% this year compared to the same period last year.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) will sponsor the resolution to be submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for approval which will place the entire province under state of calamity.
The PDRRM Council, which convened for the first time today, August 13, under the new administration of Governor Nancy Catamco, unanimously approved the said measure which will be implemented as soon as SP, chaired by Vice Governor Emmylou Mendoza, approves it.
The local government units of the towns of Banisilan and Alamada have already declared the state of calamity in their localities with cases reaching 159 and 342 respectively. Three of the total 6 dengue deaths in the province were from the municipality of Alamada.
