Gov Catamco assures support to DA-MIADP

Cotabato Governor Nancy A. Catamco assured to support the Department of Agriculture-Mindanao Inclusive Agricultural Development Project (DA-MIADP) during a consultation meeting with the DA-MAIDP technical support group and representatives from the World Bank and National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in her office on July 26, 2019.

MIADP is a proposed project for 2021 geared towards developing IP communities in Mindanao and spearheaded by the DA and funded by the World Bank.

Based on the assessment made by the technical support group on the IP communities in Tico, Magpet, more intervention is needed for the enhancement of their farm products like abaca, tahiti, high value crops and vegetables.

Governor Catamco said that she was happy that the DA under Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol is initiating the MIADP for ICCs and IPs which will facilitate their needs in terms of livelihood and farm production and socio economic activities that would enhance their capabilities for sustainable development of ancestral domains.

The governor added that as Chair of the Governors’ League in Region 12, she will also ask the support of her fellow governors and even from the president for the immediate implementation of the MIADP.

The DA regional office in collaboration with Department of Environment and Natural resources (DENR), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Interior and Local Government Unit (DILG) State Colleges and Universities and Local Government Units and in partnership with the World Bank and NCIP conducted a three- day regional consultation meeting and site visitat the Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) and Indigenous Peoples (IPs) for the proposed MIADP last July 25-27,2019.//mdd//
