Rise of Dengue Cases Alarming

Integrated Provincial Health Officer Dr. Joel Sungcad reported today that the province of Cotabato has registered 201% increase in the number of dengue cases for the period January 1 – July 19, 2019 with 3,788 cases and 16 deaths compared to the 1,253 dengue cases in the same period last year.

Midsayap topped the list of municipalities with high dengue cases with 508, followed by Kidapwan City with 470 and Makilala with 318.

In response to this, Governor Nancy A. Catamco has directed the urgent convening of the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Council to address this alarming situation.

“We cannot just sit and wait for the municipalities to come up with their local declaration of state of calamity, we need to have a contingency plan,” she emphasized in a management meeting with the department heads earlier today.

The declaration or lifting of the state of calamity may be issued by the local Sanggunian upon the recommendation of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council based on the results of the damage assessment and needs analysis.//pgo-idcd//
