Amas, Kidapawan City– To assist the farmers of Cotabato Province sell their produce under the health protocol implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) recently launched and operated the “market-market sa kapitolyo” that sold organic rice, vegetables, root crops, poultry and fishery products.
According to OPAg Head Dr. Sustines Balanag, market-market sa kapitolyo is aimed at catering the needs of employees of the provincial government, residents of Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City and nearby towns.
Market-market sakapitolyo is similar to KADIWA rolling stores in Metro Manila that directly connects farmers to consumers and offer fresh agricultural products at very low price,” Balanag said.
He also added that Governor Nancy A. Catamco, pledged to give additional P100K capital to OPAg personnel to accommodate more farmers who are interested to sell their local produce.
Governor Catamco commended the OPAg for initiating the project located at the back of Agri-center and is operated every Monday and Tuesday.
“This project is very helpful not only to the farmers but also to the provincial capitol employees, residents of barangay Amas and nearby towns. We are very fortunate here in the Province of Cotabato because despite the COVID-19 crisis, our rich agricultural lands continue to provide us various fresh and nutritious agricultural products,” the governor said.
The governor also urged the LGUsto aggressively promote and support locally-grown products of Cotabateños not only to help them cope and recover from COVID-19 crisis but even beyond this pandemic in order to advance entrepreneurship and enliven local economy.
