With her desire to provide every family in the province an access to sufficient, potable, and safe water supply, North Cotabato Governor Nancy A. Catamco is now looking into implementing expansion programs in communities, especially IP areas who often rely on springs even for drinking purposes.
In a courtesy visit of the Metro Kidapawan Water District (MKWD) led by General Manager Stella M. Gonzales this morning, the governor had asked MKWD officials to provide her an inventory of areas in the province without an existing water system so that the provincial government could immediately evaluate as to what intervention is needed and include the same in its Annual Investment Plan.
She stressed that “it is a must that every household has a safe water to drink” adding that the MKWD should also conduct a massive campaign with regards tothe conservation of water, protection of water sources, as well as the danger of the use of deep wells to the environment, especially if it is not properly regulated.
To ensure the sustainability of the program, the Governor said they will also look into the possibility of implementing a cost-recovery scheme for this project and to include a livelihood program for beneficiaries.
Governor Catamco identified the 5-hectare housing project in Luvimin, Kidapawan City, which she supported when she was 2nd District Congressional Representative, as the pilot area for the above-mentioned expansion.//idcd/lqg
