To highlight the great contribution of different ethnic tribes in the history of Cotabato Province, the provincial government of North Cotabato will once again hold a Kavurunan Festival on August 26-27, 2019 at The Basket, Provincial Pavilion, Amas, Kidapawan City.
Around 500 Indigenous People (IP) delegates coming from 17 municipalities and Kidapawan City of the province are expected to join the event that will depict the different cultures and traditions of IPs living in the province.
Kavurunan festival is one of the major activities of the 105th Founding Anniversary of the province this year also dubbed as “Kalivungan Festival” which boasts of Cotabato’s best in terms of agriculture, tourism, processed products of micro-entrepreneurs, and offers exciting sports events and games, services and other attractions.
According to Ms. Shirley Gatuslao the focal person of the activity, Kavurunan Festival is part of the yearly celebration of the province’s founding anniversary. Included in this 2-day festival are: Cultural Show, Search for Mutya ng Kavurunan, Tribal Parade, Traditional Games, Tribal Leaders Forum and Culmination Program and Awarding.
She added that this event will give an opportunity to IP brothers and sisters to show their skills and talent in singing, dancing, and playing musical instrument which they hope will encourage especially the younger generation to appreciate and preserve their cultural heritage.//ras//
