Barangay Kibudtungan, Carmen, Cotabato – born Ronie G. Baldonado, Jr., 21, the reigning World Boxing Organization Asia Oriental Lightweight champion has added another milestone in his boxing career.
This, after he won via a 6th-round knockout to fellow Pinoyslugger Enrique Magsalin in their recent fight held at the Midas Hotel, Manila.
Baldonado first caught the international boxing scene in September 2017 when he floored Chinese prize fighter Yeming Ma at the very first round of their WBO Asia Oriental Lightweight bout.
He then out boxed Indonesian top boxer Iwan Zoda and defended the title via unanimous decision in their fight held at Indonesia in January 2018.
Baldonado’s bright boxing career started when he became an amateur boxer in 2013 and eventually became a professional boxer in 2015 up to the moment where he retains the WBO Asia Oriental Lightweight champion.
Carmen’s only professional and triumphant boxer at the moment, Baldonado is known for throwing hard punches, swift, and above all a determined and dedicated boxer beating all odds in his chosen career.
His latest win against an equally formidable Pinoy boxer is considered the third major fight he had, adding value to his venture in boxing.
Youngest of the four siblings, Ronie is born to parents Ronie Baldonado, Sr. and Felicidad Baldonado of Barangay Kibudtungan, Carmen. He finished his high school from Kibudtungan High School where his potential in boxing was earlier discovered.
Eager to share his victory, Baldonado along with family and friends made his courtesy visit to Gov. Emmylou “Lala” Taliňo-Mendoza last November 27. He was warmly welcomed by the governor lauding his excellent performance in his latest bouts.
The governor, known for her generosity and loving heart gave him P20, 000.00 as incentive and wished him the best in his boxing career.
Provincial Administrator Van Cadungon with Board Members Atty. Roland Jungco, Atty. Dina Espina-Chua, and Rose Cabaya were present during the visit and congratulated the young boxer. Baldonado promised he will continue to fulfill his dream to become a champion and inspiration to others. “I am calling aspiring boxers to pushthrough despite the obstacles for in the end success will be in their hands. It just take courage, discipline, and determination to attain our goal”, said Baldonado. (Photos by JSC – PGO IDCD)
