Hon. Gregorio T. Ipong

Dodong IpongBorn on May 9, 1957 at Saguing, Makilala, North Cotabato, Dodong Ipong is the youngest in the brood of five, born to Ricardo Ladeza Ipong and Amadora Sayon Tocmo-Ipong (both deceased). Both parents were among the pioneer settlers of Makilala coming all the way from Corella, Bohol. They were dedicated public servants – his father being the first elected mayor of Makilala and served for sixteen consecutive years until his retirement from the service in 1971. His mother was a retired public school teacher and also was an active civic leader in the community.

Dodong Ipong is married to Maria Lucinda Callanta Lincuna, whose father Eusebio Lincuna, was a former Board Member of Agusan del Sur. Their marriage is gifted with three children namely: Cesar Rafael, Ricardo II and Neil Raz. The Ipong family live a simple life style amidst power and fame in politics.

Elected to the second highest post in the Province of North Cotabato on May 10, 2010 election, he is the running mate of Governor Emmylou “Lala” J. Talino-Mendoza. Dodong Ipong shares the multi-directed agenda of Gov. Lala’s administration which is anchored on the principle of good governance in public service. Their Platform of Government is directed at promoting the development of human and natural resources for the benefit of everybody. Prior to his election as Vice-Governor, Dodong Ipong also served as Member of the Board of Directors of the Philippine National Oil Company from October 2009 to March 2010.

Elected Congressman of the 2nd District of North Cotabato for three consecutive terms (1998-2007), his representation caused the allocation of 2,089 projects distributed all over the second district covering about 273 barangays. For nine years in Congress, Dodong Ipong facilitated the allocation of about P1.045B to fund the above projects which were conceptualized by the people through consultation and dialogue. At the House of Representatives he chaired the Committee on Agrarian Reform for two consecutive terms (2001-2007). He also steered the passage of the law rationalizing the Philippine Science High School System and the Mount Apo National Park Law of 2003 (RA 9237). He was also instrumental at facilitating the budget allocation of several annexed high schools in the district and eventually caused the separation of the said annexed high schools from the mother schools and their respective budgets incorporated in the General Appropriations Act every year. After he lost in 2007 as Vice-Governor, Dodong Ipong went back to his private life as a hands-on-farmer.

He was a Mayor of the Municipality of Makilala for Ten years (1988-1998). Fresh from detention as martial law activist, Dodong Ipong accepted the challenge to run for the post. Armed with his passion to serve, he won the support of his people. His local administration had focused on empowering the people thru enhancement of the capability of the Barangay Development Councils.

Dodong Ipong graduated in college at the height of Martial Law. Repression and all other human rights violations concern fuelled his desire to join the church-based Youth Organization which caused his arrest and detention for ten months. He was later released after his Presidential Commitment Order (PCO) was lifted by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos on December 25, 1983.

Vice Governor Gregorio “Dodong” T. Ipong earned his graduate education at the University of Southern Mindanao with a degree of Masters of Professional Studies in Development Management, Major in Public Affairs Management, and his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Cebu Institute of Technology. He is a Registered Mechanical Engineer.

Vice Governor Dodong Ipong finished his secondary education at the Notre Dame Diocesan Seminary, Nuling, Cotabato City. His elementary education was spent at Saguing Elementary School with his mother as his first teacher.
